The next generation Porsche Boxster and Caymen

The LA Auto Show seems to be where it is happening this year and porsche is no exception with the next generation of the Boxster and Caymen. The new cars will come with the all new flat-six engine that coupled with the new PDK, double-clutch gearbox produce a better performing engine both in terms of power and fuel efficiency. Porsche have claimed to have produced a 16% improvement in fuel consumption with its new range of engines.

The new 2.9 ltr engine will be used in both the Boxster and the Caymen and will push out 255 bhp and 265 bhp respectivly. And the S version will use the direct fuel injection 3.4 flat-six engine giving and eye watering 310 bhp in the Boxster and 320 bhp in the caymen. If you take the chrono pack which has the cool Launch control feature you can move the Caymen from 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, while the Boxster with its six-speed manual gearbox featured as standard does it in 5.9 seconds
The first changes to the Boxter and the Caymen that are apprent are the front light enclosure and the rear LED light cluster. Other changes include a more agresive rear difueser and bigger wheels.

Other cool improvements are the improvements to the Porsche Stability Management( PSM) with two new features Brake Pre-Loading and the Brake Assistant. Whenever the driver lets go of the gas pedal very quickly – which is typical of an upcoming emergency braking manoeuvre – the PSM hydraulic control unit builds up an appropriate level of pressure on the wheel brakes before the driver even presses down the brake pedal, moving the brake pads slightly towards the discs for immediate action.

Expect the new models are entering the market in February 2009. The base price without the VAT of the Boxster in the Euro countries is Euro 38,600, the base price of the Cayman Euro 41,700. The corresponding prices of the Boxster S are Euro 46,700, of the Cayman S Euro 51,500.
